Items That Are Easy to Splurge on in Your Kitchen

Dotcom Design • May 6, 2021

When it comes to designing a custom home, there are a ton of decisions to make. This is your chance to get everything just the way you want it, so it’s important to get it right. Your kitchen is one room in particular that you should spend some time and energy on. You may find yourself needing to exercise some control, though. Some kitchen items are really easy to splurge on.

Appliances

There are a ton of really cool kitchen gadgets and appliances out there these days. Given the sheer number of options, it’s easy for the cost of purchasing kitchen appliances to add up very quickly. What makes sense for you to buy will depend on a few things. Your budget and your level of experience in the kitchen are just a couple of the factors that can impact that decision. As you choose your appliances, think about how you typically cook and whether that item makes sense based on your typical cooking practices.

Countertops

Regardless of what you cook, you’ll make use of your countertops. Whether you’re using them to hold ingredients or your meal, or you’re actively preparing food on them, they’re going to get used, and will certainly see their share of spills, wear, and tear. There are a ton of different options in terms of the materials available for countertops, and some of them can get pretty pricey. Higher-end granite and marble are a couple of the most expensive options and among the most attractive. The cost doesn’t stop after being installed either. Granite countertops require sealing to ensure they last. Marble also requires regular maintenance to keep it in good condition.

Cabinets

Any kitchen, no matter how big or how small, needs storage space. Most of the time, that means you’re going to need to have cabinets installed. You’ll have different cabinet styles to choose from, depending on your preference and the style you’re trying to create in your kitchen. How you obtain them can have a huge impact on the cost. If your cabinets are custom made, they’re going to be more expensive. The wood they’re made from, the size, the amount of work, and the style of cabinet can all add up to make this kitchen feature cost a pretty penny.

Sticking with your budget when designing a custom home isn’t easy. You have to decide where to splurge and where to save. In regards to your kitchen, your appliances, countertops, and cabinets are just a few examples of items that it’s all too easy to spend a lot of money on. Whether that’s where you want to spend your money or not is up to you. Try creating a priority list that you can use to help guide yourself in terms of deciding how you want to prioritize your funds.
